- The Annunciation
The Birth of Jesus Foretold (the announcement to
Mary of the birth of Jesus):
26In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth,
a town in Galilee, 27to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph,
a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28The angel went to her
and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
29Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting
this might be. 30But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary,
you have found favor with God. 31You will be with child and give birth to
a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32He will be great and will
be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne
of his father David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever;
his kingdom will never end."
34"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"
35The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37For nothing is impossible with God."
38"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May
it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her

The Birth of Jesus:
1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree
that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2
(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of
Syria.) 3 And everyone went to his own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to
Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of
David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married
to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for
the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped
him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them
in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch
over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the
glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel
said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that
will be for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been
born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You
will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
praising God and saying,
14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

The Boy Jesus at the Temple:
41 Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover.
42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the
custom. 43 After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home,
the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44
Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began
looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find
him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46After three days they
found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them
and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding
and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother
said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and
I have been anxiously searching for you."
49 "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know
I had to be in my Father's house?" 50 But they did not understand what
he was saying to them.
51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

- The Baptism of Jesus
(Mt 3, 13-17; Mc 1,9-11; Lc 3,21-22; Jn 1,32-34)
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized
by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized
by you, and do you come to me?"
15 Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to
fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
.
- The calling of the twelve apostle:
7 Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority
over evil spirits.
8 These were his instructions: "Take nothing for the journey except a
staffno bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not
an extra tunic. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave
that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake
the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."
12 They went out and preached that people should repent. 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.
.
- Jesus and Zacchaeus the Tax Collector:
1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the
name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted
to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd.
4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus
was coming that way.
5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus,
come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." 6 So he came
down at once and welcomed him gladly.
7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.' "
8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount."
9 Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
.
- The Transfiguration (Lc
9, 28-36; Mt 17,1-8; Mc 9,2-8)
28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with
him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance
of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, 31 appeared in glorious splendor, talking with
Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment
at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they
became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, "Master, it is good
for us to be here. Let us put up three sheltersone for you, one for
Moses and one for Elijah." (He did not know what he was saying.)
34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were
afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying,
"This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him." 36 When the
voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this
to themselves, and told no one at that time what they had seen.

1 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick." .

- Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead:
38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone
laid across the entrance. 39 "Take away the stone," he said.
"But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this
time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days."
40 Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would
see the glory of God?"
41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."
43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come
out!" 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips
of linen, and a cloth around his face.
Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."
.
Jesús is arrested: (Mc 14, 43-50; Mt 26,47-56; Lc 22,47-53; Jn 18,3-11)
43 Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him
was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the
teachers of the law, and the elders.
44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss
is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard." 45 Going at once
to Jesus, Judas said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him. 46 The men seized
Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword
and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48 "Am I leading a rebellion," said Jesus, "that you have
come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you,
teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures
must be fulfilled." 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled

- On the road to Emaus (Lc 24, 13-49)
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about
seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything
that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each
other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were
kept from recognizing him.
17 He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?"
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?"
19 "What things?" he asked.
"About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet,
powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.

The Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost
(the coming of the Holy Spirit)
1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly
a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the
whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of
fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit
enabled them.
5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under
heaven. 6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment,
because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7Utterly amazed,
they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8Then
how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9Parthians,
Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus
and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;
visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we
hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12Amazed
and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"
13Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine
