The Present Simple is used for: A- Habitual actions, repeated actions, habits, routines: I get up at six o'clock every day She usually goes to the library on Monday What time do you leave work? I never get up early at the weekend. I don't see them very often. She usually wears sunglasses. B- things that are always true: The sun rises in the east. I come from France He doesn't speak Spanish If you mix red and yellow together, you get orange. C- Feelins or emotions, describing a state, with verbs of senses (smell, taste...) : I love my pupils, family and friends. She hates getting up early in the morning The meat doesn't taste right. This perfume smells nice. D- Timetables: The bus leaves at 6:15 in the morning Classes start at 8:00 in my school E- TIME EXPRESSIONS (Present simple): usually, often, never, every day, every week, sometimes, always...

The Present Continuous is used for: A- actions that are happening now, at this very moment: My sister is doing her homework now. I'm reading a new book now. Silence, we are listening to the news on the radio. What are you looking at? She isn't eating at the moment B- Temporary and different situations that are happening around now: She always has some milk, but today she is having tea. C- Future plans or arrangements (in the near future): We are having lunch together next weekend. They are flying to Paris next week. I am not going to the party tonight I am seeing the doctor next Tuesday at 11 o'clock. D- Complains (always) or habitual actions with a negative sense: You are always making a lot of noise. She is always coming to class late. E- TIME EXPRESSIONS (Present continuous): now, at the moment, at this moment, today, at present, these days, right now. next week, next month, next year...
We don't use the Present Continuous with STATIVE verbs: feel, hear, see, smell, sound, taste, doubt, forget, hope, imagine, know, mean, prefer, remember, think, understand, dislike, hope, like, love, need, want, belong to, depend on, own, appear, seem, cost, equal, measure, weigh...
